Lightly and gracefully strive for simplicity

Based in Tuscany, Elizabeth has immersed herself in the restoration of houses and villas and in the creation and interpretation of their landscapes and gardens. 

With a background in horticulture, food, and design, her studies led her to a post graduate diploma in garden design at the Inchbald School of Design in London. Her gardens are based on strong design skills together with a sound understanding of plants. 

The philosophy underpinning her work is that quality emerges from simplicity. To understand when there is nothing to add but also perhaps more importantly when there is nothing left to take away.

“My aim is to create functional design with grace, harmony and rhythm, considering every detail at every stage.  A natural flow from the interior to the exterior and to the wider landscape beyond is key for the whole to have a sense of belonging in its setting. 

My intention is to honour and enhance the client’s vision, to create a haven of joy.” 

Elizabeth has created contemporary gardens in the UK, USA and Italy. Her own garden, which she has been developing for more than a decade, continues to be her teacher. The garden and surrounding landscape are constantly evolving to presents her with challenges and opportunities for continued development. Here she experiments with ideas and planting combinations constantly seeking sustainable possibilities and solutions.
